BEARDED BRIDEā€¦

Although every marriage is different, a staple common to all peoples is that the groom must not see the bride dressed in her dress before the ceremony. Just to observe this custom, during a wedding reportage in Ravello, Amalfi Coast, I experienced one of the funniest situations of my professional career. Here's how it all started. The groom and the bride, Pon and Anna, of Russian origin, had indeed chosen the scenic and artistic Ravello to crown their dream of love. The magic of the landscape, the enchantment of Villa Rufolo and the charming intimacy of Villa Eva would have helped to make this fantastic and unforgettable. I state that among the many moments that the couple love to remember there is the dressing up. For this reason, the day of the wedding I went to the bride to start the photo story and capture the moments as highlights of the so-called "hair and makeup". As you can imagine, every time I am faced with unique situations, since every bride incorporates those moments according to his personal inclination, but on that occasion I never imagined to experience so absurd and paradoxical, to leave me speechless and at the same time to give me the opportunity to capture something that I do not think will be repeated ever again. Come into the room and made the introductions, I immediately set to work, taking in quick succession details of the make-up, the bouquet, the wedding dres that the bride would wear a little later, and so on. However, while I was taking photos, I realized that, hidden by the curtains, there was someone intent on talking on the phone. Nevertheless, I continued in my work, although I could not imagine who that figure beyond the tent, and why he was there. I do not hide that I thought for a moment that it was the groom ready to plunge into the room to surprise her beloved in her beautiful wedding dress. Fortunately my doubts appeared unfounded: the preparations went smoothly and soon everyone was ready to get to Villa Eva, where the ceremony was held. While we were starting going to the wedding location there was a knock at the door. Believing it to be a guest eager to see the bride now ready, I got in position to catch the epressione of wonder on his face. Instead we were amazed to see that, indifferent to any tradition, the groom tried to enter the room, despite knowing that it was absolutely forbidden access. Then something amazing happened: while the bride ran to hide herself in an adjoining room, from behind the curtain appeared the figure that I had noticed earlier and went to stand in the middle of the room, as if waiting for someone. The strange thing was that she wore a rudimentary wedding dress and had her faces covered with veils. After overcoming the resistance of the bridesmaids, the groom, finally in the room, flung himself on the bride, unaware of what awaited him. Behind the various veils, in fact, there was not his beloved, but his brother, with a brown beard!! The groom, realizing what was happening, laughed and the scene ended in happiness. For my part, I learned that as a photographer I have to be always alert to fully grasp the essence of the situation, because ... a bearded bride is certainly not on the agenda every day !!!
